Our favorite NC B&B's- from East to West

This past weekend, LeGrande and I went away on what a friend called a "baby-moon"- you know, a getaway for the two of us before "baby makes three". It was a great idea, and worked well since LeGrande's birthday was Friday!

One of our favorite things to do each year (generally for each anniversary in June) is to go to a bed and breakfast, typically in North Carolina. We love sleeping in luxurious beds and waking up to a gourmet breakfast that we didn't have to make, watching movies from the B&B library as we snuggle under the covers, exploring the local area and restaurants, and making new friends with the B&B owners. We have a couple of favorites, one being the B&B we stayed at this weekend...we thought we'd let you in on them so you could pay them a visit too!

The Aerie Bed and Breakfast in New Bern was where we went for three nights on our 2nd anniversary. We loved the owners, who immediately made us feel welcome and provided us with lots of tips on sightseeing in New Bern. We parked our car when we arrived and never got into it again until we left...the inn is right in the heart of downtown New Bern so you can sight see, shop, and eat all within about a mile of it. The restaurants are amazing and with Tryon Palace just next door to the inn, there is plenty to see and do for two or three days. Each night the guests mingled in the parlor with wine and snacks served by our hosts.

This was our room at the Aerie- beautiful and comfortable. The breakfast was equally amazing- we had our choice of three gourmet entrees each morning that left us comfortably stuffed until it was time for an early dinner.

This weekend, we visited the Irish Rose Bed and Breakfast in Lenoir, NC.

We chose this location because it is only about 30 minutes from Blowing Rock and about 2 hours from home. We spent all day yesterday in Blowing Rock and on the Blue Ridge Parkway, despite the frigid wind chill! It was a beautiful day, nonetheless, and we really didn't care what we did as long as we were together. The owner of the Irish Rose welcomed us and catered to our every desire just as we were guests in her home- and we were! Her breakfasts were also incredible and we had a choice of three different entrees each morning. The coffee was delicious and each evening, she provided us with "death by chocolate" brownies that she makes from scratch each day. We had lovely conversations with Rose and plan to go back as soon as we can!
