Weekend with the Redhead

This past weekend, our nephew, the "redhead", as my sister affectionately calls her son, came to spend the weekend with us for my sister and her husband to have a weekend to themselves.

We had a blast! The redhead is nearly 22 months old and quite a big boy. It is amazing how much he has grown and is able to do since our last weekend with him in April. We love being his aunt and uncle. Here are some snapshots of our weekend.

Wesley loved our cats and ran around after them, calling them the "yows" (you know, a cat says me-yow!) Here he is identifying the eyes of one of the "yows".

Our other nephew Jake (LeGrande's sister's son), came for a visit and the boys played cars. They were so sweet and shared the toys so nicely. They had a blast riding on our kitchen rug as LeGrande pulled them around the floor.

We took Wesley to a city park that is close to our house and he loved the rides- they are geared for toddlers and young children. We rode the train and the carousel together - two times!

Now, off for a boat ride. Ringing the bell was such fun! Of course, he had to have a "cah" in hand wherever we went!

And onto the thing he wanted to do so badly- the "BIG TRUCKS". We were hesitant to let Wesley do this at first but after seeing how he sat so safely in the boat, we allowed him to ride in the fire truck. He was great! Of course, he was strapped in and we reminded him to stay on his bottom. He loved riding around and seeing us at the gate. We loved seeing him smile and wave at us!

The next thriller was the air ride...my sister HAS seen these photos, ya'll, so don't freak out. He was strapped in again and again, did great! He just hung out and smiled and waved at us from the air. I did wonder if we'd ever have Wesley for the weekend again after letting him do this, but we have been told we will and it was okay! I guess aunts and uncles can get away with this kind of stuff.

Every park has to have a swing "Eee-dah" and a slide, so we had some fun on the ground (and for free).

On Sunday, we took Wesley to the pool near our house. He has not been to the pool in quite a while so we wondered how he'd do. This pool has a beach entrance, meaning that it gradually slopes down from 0 inches to 2 feet with lots of waterworks. He was like a little kamikaze kid, running from the shallow part all the way to the 2 feet and then throwing himself into the water, face first. He can't swim, so we must have looked like idiots, running beside him with each step and grabbing him up when he threw himself in. Scared of going under??? NOPE. Scared of water pouring on his face?? NOPE. Scared of being splashed by the big kids?? NOPE. Scared of walking in water up to his armpits?? NOPE. We don't have any photos of this, after all, did I want my brand new camera that replaced the one I broke on July 4th to be stolen, submerged, or broken?? NOPE!!

All I have to say to my sister is this...you have a kid without fear on your hands. Watch out. He's great fun! We love being his aunt and uncle and he can come again anytime!

You are such a great Aunt! Want to keep mine for a weekend? I hope that the summer is relaxing...if you ever need a get away, you are always welcome here! And I promise, I won't run away and leave my boys :)
