This Old House

It is Saturday and time for "This Old House"...

As many of you may know, LeGrande and I live in his grandparents' house, built in the 1940's by his grandfather. It is still on the original land that his family was deeded by King George of England, in pre-revolutionary America. (We live on a farm and love it!) The design came from a Sears & Roebuck catalog and three people in the neighborhood went in together to buy the plans. LeGrande's grandfather made some changes to the house, but now that we have inherited it, we are making some more major changes...

This is our most recent project- this hole was the wall between our living and dining rooms but LeGrande tore it out and is currently stripping and sanding a set of French Doors that belonged to his OTHER grandparents. These will be put on tracks and will become pocket doors between the living and dining room. The ceilings and floors will be redone too, as well as a new paint job. I am amazed at how much LeGrande can do. He is so gifted in SO many areas...not just demolition and reconstruction, but cooking, drawing, gardening, etc.

It has taken me a while in our marriage to realize my gifts look very different from his and that is okay, but when your husband can outbake and outcook you, it can make a girl feel pretty invalidated! It has taken a lot of communication, and we are learning to construct our marriage- to operate as a team and learning that not all marriages/roles are cookie cutter.

Hopefully the walls will be ready for painting by the time school is out for the summer and I can enjoy our first summer with CENTRAL A/C while I paint...now that is something this gal loves to do!
